Faculty Research (Trust) Scholarships - Funding Information

Faculty Research (trust funded) Scholarships* (FRS) including department and discipline-specific scholarships are made possible by generous donations and bequests.

* Students who plan to be based at an affiliated medical research institute for the duration of their research are ineligible for FRS.

Viola Edith Reid Bequest Scholarship

This scholarship is to support postgraduate study in any discipline of Medicine.

Alwyn Stewart Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is to support students undertaking further scientific work to improve training for the profession.

Anita Morawetz Scholarship

Students intending to pursue research in Australia that will contribute to the clinical practice of family therapy are encouraged to apply.

John Hayden Research Scholarship

This scholarship is to support a student engaged in full-time postgraduate studies in medicine under the general direction of Professor of Medicine at St Vincent's Hospital.

David B Rosenthal Scholarship

This scholarship is to support students of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences for study in respiratory medicine.

Thomas Peel Dunhill Research Scholarship

This scholarship is to support medical research.

Elizabeth and Vernon Puzey Scholarships

Applications are invited for the Elizabeth and Vernon Puzey Graduate Research Scholarships, which honour the late Elizabeth and Vernon Puzey of Toorak. The scholarships aim to "retain the services of well qualified citizens of Australia from leaving Australia".

Each scholarship is available to a graduate research student for up to 3.5 years, with benefits consistent with an APA Scholarship.

Three scholarships are available, one each in the Faculty of Science, the Melbourne School of Engineering and the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health Sciences.

Sheppard M Lowe Scholarship

This scholarship is to support research relating to diabetes mellitus.
 

The Elizabeth Mary Sweet Scholarship

This scholarship is to support students undertaking a higher degree by research in the field of medicine.

Ronald John Gleghorn Bursary

This scholarship is to support a student to undertake research in the fields of rheumatoid arthritis and/or varicose veins, inculding arthritis, inflammation and vascular disease.

RJ Fletcher Research Scholarship

This scholarship is to support a student undertaking research concerning cancer or anaesthetics for the prevention and relief of suffering.

Gordon-Taylor Scholarship

This scholarship is to support students undertaking postrgaduate study in medicine and/or surgery in Victoria or overseas. This scholarship is offered every two years.

J H W Birrell Scholarship

This scholarship is to support students undertaking postgraduate study in a field relevant to traffic safety.

RG and AU Meade Scholarship

This scholarship is to support further surgical training in Australia or overseas.

Jane Ariadne McLaurin Thomson and Barclay Thomson Scholarship

This scholarship is to support postgraduate medical research work with a preference for work in the field of arthritis.

John and Allan Gilmour Research Award

This scholarship is to support research work leading to a higher degree in medical or scientific fields. Offered every two years.

Leslie Eric Paddle Scholarship in Neurology

This scholarship is to support postgraduate study in the field of Neurology.

May Stewart Bursary

This scholarship is to support postgraduate study in neurodegenerative diseases.

Nancy Frances Curry Scholarship

This scholarship is to support postgraduate study in the field of motor neurone disease.

Randal and Louisa Alcock Scholarship

This scholarship is to support postgraduate study in any discipline in medicine.

Leslie Eric Paddle Scholarship in Orthopaedic Paediatrics

This scholarship is to support postgraduate study in the field of Orthopaedic Paediatrics.

The Henry and Rachael Ackman Travelling Scholarships

This scholarship is to support study abroad for Doctor of Medical Science* and PhD students undertaking research into diseases in children and women.

Richard Lovell Travelling Scholarship

This scholarship is to support a student to pursue his or her research at an overseas university, research institution or other organisation approved by the faculty in a field relevant to cancer epidemiology.

Gordon P Castles Scholarship

This scholarship is open to graduate research students of the Melbourne Medical School.

R B McComas Research Scholarship

This scholarship is to support postgraduate study in ophthalmology under the direction of the Ringland Anderson Professor of Ophthalmology in Australia or Overseas.

This scholarship is to support a student undertaking postgraduate study in the Department of Surgery at Austin Health.

Melville Hughes Scholarship

This scholarship is to support full-time higher degree studies in surgery. This scholarship may not be held in conjunction with other scholarships.

Sir Thomas Naghten Fitzgerald Scholarship

This scholarship is to support further surgical training in Australia or Overseas.

Beaney Scholarship in Pathology

This scholarship is to support students undertaking postgraduate study in pathology in the Department of Pathology.

Carol Willesee PhD Scholarship

The Carol Willesee scholarship has been established to support a high calibre RHD student undertake research into prion disease in the Department of Pathology. The scholarship provides additional financial support to an existing university scholarship. Students with a university scholarship who have been admitted into a PhD program in the Department of Pathology are eligible to apply.
