Scopus Young Researcher of the Year Awards
Australasian researchers are well known internationally for their achievements and dedicated contributions to various fields of research.
To honour these achievements the Australasian Research Management Society and Elsevier are proud to bring you the Scopus Young Researcher of the Year Awards for 2012.
The awards will be presented at the ARMS 2012 Conference (http://www.arms2012.org.au/ ) in Gold Coast, Australia on Friday 21 September 2012.

ARC Industrial Research Transformation Program
The current expected date for announcement of the ITRP is May 2012. Research Hubs: proposals must involve more than one company from the relevant sector(s). Cash support is expected from industry partners.
Once full details of the program are available, Melbourne Research will call for Expressions of Interest including requests for cash support.
Training Centres: 50 centres will be awarded over a number of years with 20 of the centres including training in social impact, inclusion and industrial and community transformation.
If you are considering a Training Centre then it is important that you discuss this with your Associate Dean Research or Research Training.

Rae & Edith Bennett Travelling Scholarship
The Rae & Edith Bennett Travelling Scholarship is funded by the Rae & Edith Bennett Travelling Scholarship Fund and enables students and graduates of the University of Melbourne to undertake postgraduate study or research in the United Kingdom.
The scholarship is valued at $40,000 to $60,000 per annum. The scholarship can be awarded for a minimum of one and a maximum of three years. Extensions beyond three years are not possible.
Applicants must intend to commence postgraduate study or research in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland).

The Dontas Family Travelling Fellowships
Two travelling fellowships are available: the Professor Anastasios Dontas Fellowship (Medical) and the Professor John Harber Phillips Fellowship (Legal) to attend the 14th Greek/Australian International Legal & Medical Conference.
The conference will be held at Cape Sounion, Greece, 2-8 June 2013 (see: www.lmconference.com.au ).
The Fellowships, one to a graduate in Law, one to a graduate in Medicine are in the form of a grant which will include a return economy class airfare from Australia to Greece (Athens), conference registration and accommodation.
The purpose of the Fellowships is to encourage interest and scholarship around the interface of medicine and law with a focus on social and cultural issues affecting Greek/Australian relationships.

Research Australia Awards - Call for nominations
The Research Australia Awards recognize and celebrate achievement and contribution to the landscape of health and medical research in Australia.
Awards are presented for areas such as discovery, advocacy, philanthropy and lifetime achievement.
Nominations can be for any individual or organization who meets the criteria for that particular award. Research Australia membership is not a prerequisite or a factor in selection of the final winner of an award.

Melbourne Research Fellowships (Career Interruptions)
The objective of the Melbourne Research Fellowships (Career Interruptions) Program is to enable eligible researchers who are University of Melbourne staff to enhance or re-establish their academic research careers.
Applications are invited from staff who do not have a continuing tenured research position whose careers have been severely interrupted, delayed or otherwise constrained by chronic illness, child bearing, child rearing or other caring duties.
Applicants must have completed a PhD degree in their field at least three years prior to application.
A number of Fellowships will be awarded, each to the value of $60,000 (on-cost inclusive) with $15,000 for travel and/or research support.

University of Melbourne Research Collaboration Grants
Research Collaboration Grants provide funding to stimulate and facilitate collaboration with external organisations. Grants of up to $20,000 will be available for one year.
They require applicants to collaborate on their project with an external organisation with a view to submitting an ARC Linkage Project grant (or similar) application or engaging in some other form of collaboration within two years of receiving the award.
Applications must be ranked by the Faculty. Please submit an electronic and hard copy of the application form which has been endorsed by the Head of Department by 5pm Friday 8 June.

NHMRC Development Grants Funding Rules reissued
An NHMRC Development Grant provides funding support to individual researchers, research teams, or an HMR company in partnership with a researcher/s to undertake research at the early proof-of-principle or pre-seed stage.
The scheme supports the commercial development of a product, process, procedure or service that if applied, would result in improved health care, disease prevention or provide health cost savings.
Applications must demonstrate a basic understanding of the process and steps required to move from research to outcomes that can be commercialised.
NHMRC’s Research Grants Management System (RGMS) must be used to submit a Development Grant Application. Applicants are also required to enter their details in the CV and Profile section of the system.

The Royal Society of Victoria - Young Scientist Research Award
The Royal Society of Victoria has established four prestigious competitive prizes open to post-graduate doctoral students in all areas of the Biological, Physical and Earth Sciences.
These prizes are designed to recognise good science and provide students further experience in presenting information to an audience of scientists and the general public on their particular research. Cash prizes (currently $1000) are awarded to students in the second to fourth year of their doctoral candidature in universities in Victoria at the time of application.

Graduate Research Students Study Away and Student Travel Registration
An online registration service for students to obtain free travel insurance is now available for students' approved university and incidental private travel. This replaces the 'Guideline Form for Off Campus Travel and Work Policy'.
The introduction of the online register for insurance and travel affects the research student Study Away application procedures. Research students and supervisors are referred to the Faculty's Study Away webpage for further information.

The Start of Career Researchers (SCR) series presents workshops specifically to support late candidature graduate researchers and those within two years of the conferral of their research degree.
Planning the Foundations is the flagship event in the Start of Career Researchers series, providing professional development and practical advice on a range of issues important for Start of Career Researchers.
The workshop covers developing a strategic academic career plan, grant seeking, publishing and research communication, and work-life balance.
